Professor Sunday Ocheni is a Haematologist with a passionate interest in Haematology-Oncology. His core area of interest is in Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT). He graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, with clinical training at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Nigeria. After completing his undergraduate medical training at the University of Ibadan, he proceeded to undertake his Residency and Fellowship trainings in Haematology at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, with specific interests in Haematology-Oncology, culminating in the award of the Fellowship in Haematology by the Faculty of Pathology of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in 2003. Thereafter, he underwent further sub-specialist training in Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) at the Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation, University Cancer Centre Hamburg, Germany. He is currently, Professor of Haematology and Consultant Haematologist, Department of Haematology & Immunology, University of Nigeria Ituku-Ozalla Campus and University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu, Nigeria respectively. He is one of the current breed of Bone Marrow Transplantation Physicians in Nigeria promoting the use of high dose chemoradiotherapy and autologous/allogeneic HSCT in the treatment of benign and malignant haematological disorders. He is also a Co-Director and Search Coordinator of the Bone Marrow Donors Registry in Nigeria, http://www.bonemarrownigeria.org/ the second of the only two Bone Marrow Donor Registries in Africa, registered and affiliated with the World Marrow Donor Association https://www.wmda.info/   Through the Bone Marrow Donors Registry, he participates in searching for stem cell donors for patients in need of stem cell transplantation.  He has the training, expertise, leadership and motivation necessary to successfully participate in multi-center cancer and Registry studies. Dr. Ocheni’s contributions to cancer care and research have been published in several peer reviewed Journals.
